FAQ

Good questions.

What is Brazilian Zouk?

Brazilian Zouk is a partner dance from Brazil that grew out of Lambada in the 1990s. It is known for its fluid, wave-like body movements, its close connection between partners and its flowing head movements. Today it is danced to many styles of music, from zouk and R&B to pop and electronic, at socials and festivals all over the world.

I've never danced before. Can I join?

Absolutely. Level 1 is made for complete beginners — on Monday in Evere or Thursday in Ixelles.

Do I need to come with a partner?

No. Partners rotate during class on both days, so you can come alone or with friends.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes you can move in, and shoes with a smooth sole that let you turn. Avoid sneakers with a lot of grip.

How much does it cost?

Thursday at Salle Dublin: €10 per class or €90 for a 10-class card, paid on site. Monday classes in Evere are run with Quiero Bailar, with their own prices and booking on their website. ZoukBX cards are valid on Thursdays only.

Which level should I choose?

New to Zouk? Start with Level 1. Your teachers will tell you when you're ready to move on.

What are head movements?

Head movements are one of the signatures of Brazilian Zouk: the follower's head and upper body move in linear or circular paths, led through the connection with the partner and carried by the whole body rather than the neck. They are taught step by step from Level 2, with technique that keeps the movement comfortable and safe. They are always optional, and you can enjoy Zouk fully without them.
